A few years back, I decided to seriously get into yoga. I had dabbled in it for years but nothing serious. I got an extra-long mat for Christmas in high school and truly never put it to good use until recently.
One day, I decided to roll out my mat and do yoga for real. The first few sessions were discouraging. I was inflexible, off-balance, and awkward. I pulled up a YouTube video to go through, and could barely make it through without getting too tired to continue. I wanted to make it work. The more I did it, the easier and more fun it became. I started finding new ways to practice and noticed improvements with each session.

I, of course, turned to instagram for inspiration. I created an account that chronicled my adventures. I got involved in challenges which gave me poses to work towards, and I found a community of like-minded people.

Fast forward a few years, I have made waves with my yoga practice. I’m now more flexible and coordinated. But most importantly, I’m more centered and focused on myself. I feel happier, calmer, and more grateful as a result.
The key to yoga – patience. Something that I have found is particularly hard in our fast-paced world. Slowing down and accepting progress as it comes is difficult. I know. But trust me, it is worth the effort.
What are you waiting for? Throw on some yoga pants (because it is technically their purpose), roll or your mat, crank up your favorite tunes ( no, you don’t have to listen to calm, chant music… Turn up the beats!) and join me!
